How the five elements work in BaZi

BaZi uses Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water to describe relationships
inside a birth chart. A reading looks at the mix, not just one element.

The five elements are a reading language

Each pillar contains signs connected with the five elements. A chart may
show some elements strongly and others lightly. The point is not to label
one element good or bad. The useful question is how the elements interact.

Balance does not always mean equal amounts

Beginners often assume a balanced chart means all five elements appear in
equal measure. BaZi is more specific than that. Season, position, hidden
stems, and the Day Master all affect how an element is read.
